A very heavy cast plaster bust of abraham lincoln, by leonard w volk. This nude bust was purchased in the 1930's, after it's deascension from the illinois state historical library. I have seen many of the casts and sculptures by volk, but this is one of the hardest to find.
Bust is impressed l. W. Volk / sculptor / 1860. Patented june 12, 1860.
Base is hollow, and there are numerous finger marks, showing how this piece was hand-finished. Measures over 12.75 tall, and quite heavy, with a shipping weight of over 8 pounds. In wonderful vintage condition, unpolished, with original warm patina. There are nuemrous flakes to the gray paint, but this piece is in original untouched condition. A fwe small nicks, but absolutely no cracks, hairlines, or repairs. I have included many pics, so yuo can see that this is an impressive piece, and it displays beautifully.
