I am the retired founder of the first radical environmental guerrilla unit known sa the original elf. The first elf cadre (environmental life force), disbanded in 1978 after my arrest and conviction for extremist underground activities. Today's elf (earth liberation front), is a cloned version of the original which surfaced in eugene oregon in 1996 just a few miles south of the original elf's final bombing action in oregon city.
The new elf mirrors the strategies of direct action and civil disobedience employde by the former elf. However, back in 1978, the use of violence and arson was recognized as being a failed and counterproductive tactic. This is something that the present elf cadre is leraning all over again.
